Established in April 1998 with only 8 students, Annoor Academy today is a full-time Islamic School with over 130 students in 9 grade levels: Pre-K through 7th grade (see our enrollment growth statistics ). The preschool is housed in the Annoor Masjid near downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. The elementary school is housed in modular units across from the Masjid. A permanent facility for the school is under construction at this time.
Permanent Facility Progress Details:
- NOV. 1999 - Purchased a 7 acre plot (Fox Road) in West Knoxville for building an Islamic School Facility.
- DEC. 1999 - AUG,2000 - Focused efforts on expanding the downtown school facility into modular units.
- MAR. 2001 - Started planning for construction of a permanent school building,(instead of the modular units), on the Fox Road property.
- MAY 2001 - One of our Muslim Sisters provides a master plan for the Fox Road project.
- MAY 2001 - Ongoing community discussions and involvement in the future vision of our school building.
- JUNE 2001 - First official meetings with architects regarding possible designs,costs, and time projections.
- AUG. 2001 - Site cleared at the Fox Road location
- SEPT. 2001 - Geotechnical study conducted for subsurface investigations.
- 2002 - Site Engineering
- 2003 - Site Grading completed
- 2003 - Building Design completed/ Bidding
- 2004 - Permitting and review
- September 2004- Building Permit Obtained
- October 2004- Ground Breaking Event at the Fox Road Site.
- November 2004 - Foundation Poured
- In Shaa Allah, AUG.2005 - Projected completion of the first floor of our new school building (even while final touches being completed.)
